SW Portland Wine Bar Korkage Expands
Tasting Experience
New owners extend hours, inventory, live music, and offer personalized pairings
Portland, OR., February 1, 2010 –Korkage Wine Shop and Tasting Bar, a Southwest neighborhood favorite, now offers clientele an expanded tasting experience. With an accomplished chef at the helm, the new owners will provide tasting clients with gourmet small bite pairings customized to their wine selections. Responding to client demand, the shop will be open more evenings, and will be offering a broader selection of fine wines and more tastings.
The Hillsdale neighborhood welcomes Executive Chef Earl Johnson, who has 20 years of cooking and teaching experience including a stint at the Statler Hotel at Cornell University in New York, one of the foremost hospitality schools in the country. As an expert on the palate, he is likely to be the one at the bar serving up tasty cheese or chocolate morsels to perfectly complement a chosen glass of wine or tasting flight. Clients can also tell Chef Earl what’s for dinner and he will recommend a bottle that is sure to be enjoyed.
“Korkage is an intimate spot with a lot of regulars. I want to make it even more personalized for them,” said Chef Earl. “We’ll be announcing our tastings and pairings on Facebook, and email (info@korkagewineshop.com) so people can be sure to catch what they like.”
Korkage is located on Capitol Highway, just off Terwilliger. Not only is it a destination in itself for a relaxing glass of wine or adventurous tasting after work, but also it is a convenient stop to pick up a bottle on the way home from work or to a dinner party. Korkage also has wireless internet and will continue to be an afternoon stop for virtual workers.
The Co-proprietors, Tamairah and Erich Boleyn, a native Oregonian couple, live nearby in Hillsdale. “We have enjoyed Korkage since it opened in 2008,” said Tamairah Boleyn. “It was a great addition to the neighborhood – especially with the live music. We are thrilled to be able to sustain it. We just had a baby and are looking forward to being part of the local economy here for a very long time.”
Korkage will not close during the ownership transition; business continues as usual. The new owners will host a grand opening extended weekend promotion with live music, delectable pairings and champagne toasts February 11-Valentine’s Day.
